Update for Lync for Mac 2011 client

In my short-lived experiment using a Mac with Office 365 one of the frustrating things was the Lync for Mac experience.

The two main issues I found were:

– first time sign-in required manual connection configuration settings

– subsequent sign-ins took several minutes

Compared to the Lync 2010 and 2013 experiences this was woeful.

Part of the reason for the experiment was because many of my customers at Paradyne are schools and have large Mac deployments – meaning this impacted a great many users and would potentially sour their experience.

A couple of days ago Microsoft published an update to the Lync for Mac 2011 client, bringing it up to version 14.0.5. There are significant improvements in this build, so if you or your users experience the challenges on the Mac that I only experienced briefly – run out and deploy it!
