What is the role of email in the modern world?

I hate email. Many people hate email, and for different reasons. But is our hatred misplaced? Is it the fault of the technology? Or is it legitimate?

Some people hate email because they get too much of it. I hate email because of how people use it as a conversational medium, and still send attachments between each other.

So are we hating for the right reason? And is hatred really the right emotion to feel? Or is it more annoyance, frustration, or even indifference?

In this new world of modern messaging we are surrounded by different ways to communicate in our work and personal lives.

People who have known me long enough have seen me repeatedly tout newer forms of communication and tools within the Microsoft Office 365 suite such as Skype for Business, Yammer, Microsoft Teams, and recently Microsoft Kaizala. Anything but email, please!

The reality is that email isn’t going anywhere. So you can scream “death to email” as much as you want but it’s just not going to happen.

In my latest whitepaper I examine the challenges to email, its place in the modern world and why it isn’t going anywhere. This whitepaper was sponsored by Exclaimer and is available for download from their website: https://www.exclaimer.com.au/pages/partners/importance-emails
